PETONE POLICE CASES.
Messrs. M'Ewan and Caverhill, .Justices of the Peace, presided at a sitting of the Petone Police Court this morning James Gibbons, for being drunk in Jackson-street, was fined ss, or in default ordered to spend 24 hours in gaol. Gibbons was also charged with assaulting Thomas Stewart by striking him with a bottle of beer, thus indicting minor injuries about the head. Acciised pleaded guilty, but stated that he did not know what he was doing at the time. Ho admitted a previous conviction for assault two years ;igo. Mr. M'Ewan said that being drunk was no excuse - at all. Very serious consequences might result from striking anybody with a bottle. On this charge Gibbons was fined 40s, or in default 24 hours' imprisonment. He was given time in which to find the money. David liobert Reid, a labourer, was charged with being drunk and disorderly in Jackson-street. He was fined 20s, or in the alternative 48 hours' imprison* ment. On Saturday, before Messrs. Soucngate and M'Ewan. Frederic Brader was convicted and fined 5s for being the owner of a dangerous dog.
