THE WICKLIFFE PREACHERS POLICE S~UMMONED. By Telegraph.— Pros* Association.— Copyright LONDON, 15th April The Wickliffo Preachers, headed by Mr. John Kensit, disturbed the service of the Veneration of the Cross at Holy Trinity Church, Hoxton. Mr. Keneit, on approaching the chancel, ehouted, "This idolatory in the Church of England must cease." The choristers ba.rred the way with a wooden cross. Loud words and a scuffle ensued, and the clergyman, in endeavouring to secure the cross, was carried off his feet and fell, the cross being enatched from its socket and broken in the struggle. The police were summoned, but the Wicklifle Preachers left the church voluntarily. Mr. Kensit subsequently telegraphed to the Bishop of London (Dr. Ingram), reminding him of his undertaking that the adoration of the crucifix would not i be allowed. [The Wickliffe Preachers arc itinerating evangelists, who preach against Ritualism in the Church of England.]
