The oyet-er beds in the Auckland district are to be re-opened on Ist May. The season will probably extend over two months only. None but the, best oysters will be picked. The threatened trouble between the Christchurch Tramway Board and its employees appears to be on a fair way to amicable settlement. The bone of contention (says the Press) hae been the '•'roster" — the schedule detailing the different periods during tho day that tlie men have to be on duty. For some weeks the Tramwa.y Employees' Union has been preparing an amended "roster, " a copy of which readied the boards officers towards the end of lust week, and it has been considered and a report has been drawn up regarding it. According to the secretary of the union, one essential provision that the men ■want is for alternate day and night work weekly — that is, that the men on da.y duty one week should be on night duty tho next. Matters connected with the proposed "roster' 1 and the union's proposed amendments thereto are to be discussed between, the members of the board and the representatives of the union at a meeting to bo held next Thursday, at which it is anticipated' some agreement will be arrived at.
