Arrived— Monowai (4 p.m.), Irom Wellington THIS WEEK'S BOAT FROM SYDNEY. <The Warrimoo left Sydney for Wellington direct at 3 o'cloc-K on Saturday afternoon. The vessel should arrive at Wellington early on AVednesday morning. HEL^EN DENNY, FROM NEWCASTLE. The barque Helen Denny, from Newcastle, arrived 'on Saturday afternoon, and was towed in from off the Heads by the Duchess shortly before 5 o'clock. The barque made a smart passage of eight days, experiencing light westerly winds and smooth sea. Captain Holm reports "all well." To-morrow the vessel ■will berth for the purpose of discharging her cargo of coal. Subsequently she will, in all probability, load timber from Akitio at Wellington for Sydney. The vessel will also take in timber at Hokianga for the same port. LIGHTING OF AUCKLAND COAST. • The Secretary for Marine (Mr. Geo.' Allport) has written to the Auckland Chamber of Commerce as follows, in regard to tut lighting of the North Auckland coast:— "l have been directed by the Minitter for 3iarine to state" thafc as regards a light for Bushy Head, at the entrance to Whangarei harbour, such a light would be .a harbour light, aad it is one of the functions of the Harbour Board having control of a port to provide and maintain such harbour lights as may be required. In view of (this, and of the fact that ife has been decided to let the Mokohinau light remain where it is, it is considered that this department cannot reasonably be 'expected to erect a light on Bushy Head." TAINTJI TO ARRIVE TUESDAY. As she did not leave Hobart until 3,30 a.m. on Fridaj', the Tainui will not now arrive at Wellington before Tuesday morning From the stream, the vessel will berth at Qlieen'B Wharf south. "WAITEMATA LEFT CALCUTTA. Ths Waitemata sailed from Calcutta on the 10th inst. for New Zealand ports via Singapore and Java. First calling at Auckland the steamer will arrive at Wellington about the 16th May. '- TIMBER BY THE HOLMDALE. Some 165,000 ft of rimu and kauri were brought to Wellington on Saturday afternoon by the Hohndale from Rawene (Hokianga). The vessel is * berthed at the Taranaki-street Wharf, and after putting out her cargo she will most likely proceed to Greymouth to load for Lyttelton. / INDRABARAH'S EXPECTED ARRIVAL. .The Indrabarah, from London, which is to leave Auckland to-morrow for Napier * and Wellington to complete discharge, averaged a speed of 12.3 knots an hour on the way out from England. Her voyage was uneventful. Associated with Captain Hollingsworth, are the following officers -.—Chief. Mr. C. F. Mealing; second, Mr. T. Laidler; third, Mr. C. Jackson; fourth, Mr. R. Evans. Mr. J. Barclay is chief refrigerator, and Mr. J* Gray second, while Mr. Rohr is chief steward." A small steamer, bound westward, was reported off the Wellington Heads at 7.30 last night. After being weatier-bound for some days the scow Ngaru cleared the Wellington Heads yesterday for Tonga Bay. The scow Maroro is to load coal at Newcastle for Wangantti. Oh her return trip she will load p : ne at Wangaoui, for Sydney. On Saturday afternoon Hhe Aorangi unshipped her mizzen-mast. The A. and A.« Line steamer Swanley, which is due at Wellington about the first week in 3lay from ' New York, reached Melbourne last Saturday. The Federal-Houlder-Shire steamer Nairnshirß is to leave Liverpool on the 6th May direct for Wellington, AucklanS, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and the Bluff. Yesterday the auxiliary scow Echo sailed for Karamea to load timber for Lyttelton. While at Lyttelton, the vessel-.'will be fitted up with a five-horse power oi) motor winch. / The hull of the Flora has been painted black and the steamer now resembles a collier in every respect. 'On Thursday next the vessel will take over the Pukaki's run to the West Coast. Captain A. T. Norton, late of the Koonya, will take charge of the Flora. Captain Edwin, late of the Whangape, and now on the Waihora, has been succeeded on the Whangape by Captain J. F Spring-Brown. Mr. A. H. McDonald, late chief officer of the Pukaki, has transferred to the Koonya. Mr. lies, of the Koonya, is to join the Flora. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Pakeha left 'London on the Bth April for Auckland and Wellington. Her arrival at Wellington is expected about the 22nd May. An exchange of positions has taken place between Mr. A: Andrews, purser of the Maori, and Mr. Val. Duff, purser of the Hauroto. Mr. W. Cunningham, purser of the 3Xarama, is to transfer to the Moana at Melbourne. Captain Sydney Stringer, Assistant Superintendent of Marine, commences this week a month's holiday.
