COURSING.

MEETING AT TRENTHAM. Tho Wellington Metropolitan Coursing Club held its first — the Eaßtor — meeting at Trentham on Saturday. The weather told again«fc the attendance, but in no way intorfei-pcl with the cour&ing — if nnything, the rain improved the course. Considering' it was the club's initial meeting, the number of entries was satisfactory. Some good dogs competed, entries bping received from Taranaki, Manawatu, Marlborough, and all parts of tho Wellington district. Tho entrants included Gold Dust, winner of the Waterloo Cup; Royal Artillery, a dog with several bipr successes to his credit ; Ruffles, w inner of' the Hawera Cup: and Pirate ' Captain, champion doer from Taranaki. Interest was lent to tho meeting by the presence of several Aubtralian-bred dogs of quality. Though the hares were an ii'dineront lot, some good runs were witnessed. Tho first day's coursing was not very interesting, tho weeding-out process having to bo undergone in the first round. As judge, Mr. J. Lopdell appeared to giva overv satisfaction. Air. P. Donnghuo fulfilled with credit tho arduous duties of slipper, while Mr. J. J. Donoghuo was 11 n energetic secretary. Results of Saturday's ovents wero as follow :—: — Wellington Stakes; first dog £20, runnor-up £5, third dog £2, two dogs 30s. — First round: C. A. Schnuor's Paifus Dawes. 3 points, boat E. M.
