WESTPORT, This Day. Julius Marx, aged 18, who was injured some time ago through being crushed between tubs at Stockton mine, died in, Westport Hospital. iANOTHER SAD DROWNING CASE. Ellen Mary Cullinan, aged 15, and her brother William Cullinan, aged 13, left the home of their stepfather Charles B. Miller, and jour- j neyed to Kaik in the Maheno. After ! arrival the Cullinans went along to the Kaik jetty to fish. It is surmised that after angling off the jetty for some time the boy and girl proceeded around the rocks to .continue their fishing and got blocked in the inlet by the incoming tide; that in trying to climb round the rocks again Lo get into a safe position the girl slipped and struck her head on a rock and then fell into the water. The brother dived in to save her and caugnt hold of his sister but himself got into difficulties. A Maori boy diving in brought him out. After some time William was brought round by artificial respiration. The body of the sister was brought to the surface by one of the crew of a dinghy. Deceased was taken on board the Maheno where artificial respiration was continued for over two hours but unavailinglx. The police received information yes--terday from Nelson tnat Frank Gaiger, 27 yeaas of age, was found in an> un- : conscious condition on the Nelson-road at midnight and was taken to the hospital where later he expired. A revolver discharged in one chamber was found alongside Gaiger. An inquest was opened yesteEda.y and adjourned. Walter Ellison received a message from Eketahuna yesterday bating that Walter Fly, pf Mangaoronga, a mairied man, shot hWfielf at hie farm on Thursday. iWHILE MENTALLY DERANGED. AUCKLAND, This Day. 'A married woman named Ellen Blair, aged seventy, while suffering from mental derangement, the result of an incurable disease, hanged herself with a, fishing line over a balcony.
