NEW ZEALAND REFEREES.
ANNUAL MEETING OF, ASSO CIATION. , The annual meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Referees', Association was held m the Town Hall yesterday. Mr. E. M. Isaacs, president of the association, presided, and the " following delegates were present :— Messrs. G. H. Katterns (Auckland), F. Spurdle (Taranaki) J. Holland (Wanganui), G. R. Freeman (Horowhenua), D. M'Kenzie (Wellington), T. Feilding (Wairarapa), C. Stubbs (Hastings), G. Logan (Nelson), H. E. Hiddlestone (Canterbury), Ross (Otago) J- M. Robb (Southland), Chisholm (Marlborough). The question of the location of the headquarters of the association caused a long discussion. Mr. Ross moved that - Otago be the headquarters for the ensuing season. Delegates, however, were of the opinion that the interests of the association would be better served if the headquarters remained in Wellington and voted accordingly. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, his Excellency the Governor, Lord Islington; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. Campbell (Auckland), L. Craig (Wanganui), A. M'Bain (Horowhenua), H. E. Card (Wellington) V Higgins (Wairarapa), W. Keith (Hastings), J. J. Martin (Poverty Bay) W Cooke (Nelson), J. H. Morrison (Marlborough), H. E. Heddlestone (Canterbury)W. J. Ross (Otago), A. M'Gavock (Southland), and the president of the Taranaki Association ; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. M. Robb; executive committee, Messrs. J. Laughton, F. A. Laws, Geo. Howe, L. Sievers, and F. A. Hempleman; hon. auditor, Mr. C. H Manson. On behalf of the Auckland Association, Mr. Easterns moved that the bylaws of the association be amended so as to provide that there be a biennial general meeting instead' of an annual meeting. Mr. Hiddlestone moved an amendment that the meeting be triennial. Speaking to his amendment, Mr. Hiddlestone stated that the meetings held annually resulted in too much tinkering with the rules, and he considered that if three years were allowed to elapse before the next meeting there would probably be a greater uniformity in the rules than at present. After much discussion, the bylaws were unaltered. . It was decided that the next conference and annual meeting be held at Hastings Easter of next year was fixed as the date." A motior that provision be made in the bylaws for determining the -classification of associations as metropolitan associations was defeated, delegates hold ing the opinion that classification of associations was wrong in principle. •It was decided that a certificate be awarded; to all referees who officiate 'in inter-union or like matches. It was also decided-. that handbooks be reprinted, and tthat the case law be revised and simplified by the compilers. Messrs. Robb, Hempleman, and M'Kenzie were appointed to deal with the matter. The usual honorarium of £10 was voted, the hon. secretary. The executive Vas empowered to strike the Dannevirke Association off the roll if arrears of subscription are not paid by the 30th April:
