AKAROA, 14th April. Akaroa is rapidly filling with visitors to witness the contest for the professional sculling championship of New Zealand, which takes place here on Easter Monday, between Whelch, of Akaroa, present holder, and. Fogwell, of Australia, challenger. Both men have been in active training on the harbour, and are exhibiting good form, Fogwell showing marked improvement •on the form he displayed when defeated by Whelch for the championship two years ago. Both men are even favourites. There is every prospect of tho fine weather lasting. Arnfit will be here to ; (witness the match. Besides the championshia, there is a . stake of £200 a-side, Fogwell taking £50 expenses in the event of his losing. Whelch takes the whole of the gate, win or lose.
