I A -westerly storm area passed in the South 1 during the nighr, when squally westerlies and gules were experienced hi parts in aod southward of Cook Strait, accompanied with rain on the West Coast and southernmost districts of the South Island. Freshes are reported in the West Coast rivers this morning. Fair weather has continued in the east coast districts of the North Island, but elsewhere conditions have been unsettled and cloudy and misty and foggy northward of Kawhia and East Cape. Heavy seas have been reported on the west coasts of both Islands, and considerable in Cook Strait.
