[BX TSLEGRAI'H— SI'BCIAt TO THE POST.] PALMEItSTON N., This Day. Mr. W. C. Churchill, a prominent Reehabite and temperance leader, arrived here yesterday and was tendered a civic reception. \\lr. Churchill spid he had never se-sn a country in which the friendly societies' movement, was stronger in proportion to the population. He referred to having seen drunkenness in Palmerston during the afternoon of his visit, but ha expressed gratification at the progress of ths no-lie-rnse movement throughout the Dominion. What he had seen proved the faWty of the allegations heard so frequently* in England of the failure of the movement in the Dominion. Mr. Churchill also addressed a well-attended meeting in the evening. Frederick Hunter, a youth aged twenty, pleaded guilty at Court yesterday to theffc cf a bicycle. Accused had several' previous- convictions against him for theft, and the Magistrate, in sending him to gael for four months, said Hunter had narrowly escapad being declared an habitual criminal. He advised him to think seriously over his position while serving his sentence. [PHESS ASSOCIATION.]
