Three- thousand Berber tribesmea, after unsuccessfully attacking the southeastern walls of Fez, the Moorish capi-ta-l, whore the Suhan lies besieged by rebels, retired, and, skirting the southern hills, renewed the attack in tho afternoon near the Sultan's palace, in the souith-wesb of the town. The rebels were well within the range, of the artillery, which, under Colonel Mangin, of th© French military mission, maintained a heavy cross fire, driving the tribesmen on to tho plains to the westward. »
