NO HOPE OF ESCAPE. NEW YORK. Bth April. At Scranton, Pennsylvania, between 50 and 75 men are entombed at the Throop mine by a lire. Any hope of escape has been cut off. DEATH-ROLL. DISGRACEFUL SCENES AT PIT'S MOUTH. (Received April 10. 9 a.m.) • WASHINGTON, 9th April. The death-roll at the Throop mine was seventy-four. When the bodies reached the pit's mouth undertakers fought to secure the corpses, hoping to obtain burial fees. There were disgraceful scenes until the police interfered.
