The town was occupied by the army and the mutiny quelled. The mutineers then boarded the gunboat San Puafael and asked for the commander's protection. This was refused and they were sent ashore and arrested The cruiser Adamastor has been sent to Oporto equipped for war and carrying troops. There is considerable resentment in Northern Portugal owing to the Minister for Justice's declaration that the separation of Church a-nd State will be enforced in June.
