GOLF.
OPENING OF MIRAMAR CLUB. If ' the weather on the opening day is any criterion and fair weather presages a good season, then the Miramar Golf Club should have a successful year. The coarse, at any time, is a picturesque one, and on Saturday it was seen at its best. During the afternoon various competitions were played off. In the ladies 1 approaching and putting competition, four ladies tied, these being Misses Ward, Didsbury, Richardson, and Rawson. Mis 3 Didsbury won in the playoff. Ladies' driving. — Miss Didsbury, 1; Mrs. Firth, 2; Miss Doughby, 3. Men's approaching and putting. — Mr. Horfcon. Men's driving. — Mr. Mills, 1 ; Mr. Horton, 2. During the afternoon tea was provided for the visitors and members by the ladie3 of the club. HUTT CLUB. The play-off for the monthly Silver Button competition on the Hutt links resulted in a win for L. D. Hurst with a net score of 77. Other good cards were handed in by C: G. Allen 79, R. 0. Chesney 81, X Abbott 81, and C. A. Treadwell 82.
