BIG CATCH OF FISH.
Tlie steam trawler Nora Niven arrived in port this morning after a very successful four days' fishing in Cook Strait. Her catch totalled twenty tons, comprising snapper, moki. flatfish, gurnard, and terakihi. Fish,* especially snapper, is particularly plentiful in Cook Strait just now.- Passing Kapiti 'Island the trawler passed a very big school of blackfis-h. Numerous shoals of porpoises were also encountered. TEACHERS' SPORTS ASSOCIATION. t - — The tennis tournament of the Wellington ' Teachers' Sports Association was concluded at the Brougham Hill courts this morning. The results were ; Final Doubles — Burns and Fathers v. Griffiths and Arcus, 70—56. Singles — Semi-final, Burns v. Low, 70 — 45; final. Burns v. Thwaites, 65—70. KING'S FESTIVAL SPORTS. ♦ Entries for the tug-oi-waa.', cycling, running, and high jump events close with the secretary (M. Ford) on Monday evening next, or with J. E. Fitzgerald, Lambton-quay. The committee has decided to delete all professional running, -and substitute amateur events in place of them, which will take the form of one mile walk and a one mik» run j_,such events will be contested in the Town Hall. There have -bean, good entries- for ■the tug-of-wai 1 event, including the drivers, Druids' Club, and several other well-known teams. The first Marathon run will be as follows: One lap in hall, and' then depart,' then, by way, of Vic-toria-street, Kent-terrace, and Adelaide-, road to the Island Bay tram terminus and return, finishing up with four laps (each 100 yds) in the Town Hall. The distance for the second run will be to ibe patent slip and return, distance about seven miles, course via Oriental Bay. For the first week's programme it has been decided to make, the cycle contests open to amateur riders, while on Tuesday. 25fch April, the event will be open to professional riders, and the following Thursday will be kept askle for amateurs. A meeting of the Amalgamated Society of mercha-nts' assistants will be held in The Arcade (Socialists') Hall, 55a, Man-ners-street, on Monday evening. A notice regarding: Easfcer holiday tickets on the railways is advertised in this issue. Holy Week will be observed as usual a I St. Peter's.. There will be a daily celebration at 7 a'.rn., matins at 11, and -evepsong at 7.15 p.m., at both of which Eorviees, addresses will be gi\eu. The three I hours' devotion on Good Friday will bo conducted by the vicar, and at night the choir ■will give a rendering of Stainer's i "Crucifixion."
