MARIE TEMPEST'S MIRACLE PICTURE.

The American correspondent of M.A.P sends that journal a remarkable story about Miss Marie Tempest, the popular comedionne. It appears that a lithograph portrait of Miss Tempest has been mistaken by the devout Catholics of a Yucatan village for a picture of the Virgin, ancl is actually being worshipped as such" in tho local church ! A traveller friend of Miss Tempest- tells the story of his strange discovery in a letter to Mr. Hamilton Bell, the art director of the New York Millionaires' Theatre. The picture first appeared among some wreckage during a furious storm off the fishing village of Yokohan. The hurricane j raged disastrously everywhere except in the vioinity of this wreckage, where there was a wonderful zone of calm. Tho superstitious fishermen took the picture to their villago priest, who" assured thorn that it must be sacred to havo worked such a miracle. He advised that it be framed and dedicated to the church. When this had been done, new marvels followed. The natives aver that through tho efficacy of tho picture the sick were healed, the blind inado to see, and all sorts of cures were effected. People flocked to the shrine, and the influx became so great that the priest appealed to the bishop of the diocese, who decided that to worthily honour so signal a manifestation of Divine rWour, a handsome church should be built. This was accomplished, and the picture, framed in gbld and jewels, is exhibited above the altar on feast days. "Naturally enough," says Mr. Bell's informant, "I went to see tho wonderful picture. Imagine my amazement when I found it to be a lithograph of our friend Miss Tempest! There was no mistaking it, for iiiad Jreguentlx seenjt Jn^Londo?.'-
