MAGIST RATE'S COURT.

To-day's sitting of the Magistrate-'s Court was presided over by Mr. W. G Riddell, S.M. Cissy Knight, alias M'Williams, admitted having: been drunk, also *a chars© of being an idle and disorderly person. She was convicted and discharged for the first offence; ordered to remain in the Salvation Army Home for six months on the second count. An allegation of being an idle and disorderly person was denied by Maud Francis, whom the police knew as a prostitute, keeping company with vagrants and reputed thieves. ' The woman was convicted and sentenced to three months' imprisonment. Five persons, on the occasion of their first la-pse into insobriety, received lenient treatment. Breach of a prohibition order and its usual attendant charge were admitted by Timothy Donovan, an habitual drunkard, •who wits sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Claude Russel Patterson was convicted of having disobeyed a maintenance order in respect of his wife (arrears £31 10s), and sentenced to three months' imprisonment, tho warrant to be suspended if defondant pays 15s a week off the arrears. Mr. T. M. Wilford appeared for complainant. Cancellation of a maintenance order was granted William H. Barrow. For disobedience of a maintenance order (arrears £2 Is, which hail since been paid), Frank Ferguson was ordered to pay solicitor's fee, £1 Is. Mr. J. Hogben appeared for complainant.
