CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER.
«. SEQUEL TO A WOMAN'S DEATH. {"BY TELEGBAPK — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, This Day. William Osbome was charged in. the Police Court with manslaughter, arising from the death of MaTy Gilchrist, oa 7th January. The medical evidence was to the effect that two of the woman's ribs hail been fractured, likely from a kick by a boot or a fall against a table or chair, and that such violence would havft caused the woman's death. Sergeant Ferguson said that on 23rd December deceased made a statement to the effect that the prisoner assaulted her, but she added : "I provoked him and was nearly as much to blame as him." Deceased also described her life with Osborne, and stated he only earned ten shillings in three months. Accused, who was present, heard deceased's statement and said : "Yes, that's about right." „ Prisoner pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial.' Bail was fixed in two sureties of £50 each, and one of £100.
