ADVERTISING IN TRAMCARS. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — It is rather amusing to read some of your correspondents' letters re the council's action in leasing the- trams for advertisements. Mr. Hislop's argument, "that the cars should be a place of rest from business cares and conflicts," is too "funny. He ought to travel on the Kiibirnie line after 5 p.m., with eight and ten standing in each compartment. But perhaps that is his idea ot rest. 1 have been on the cars in both England and Australia, and in most of them you will find advertisements, which,' instead of being an eyesore, are in some eases quite artistic^ and give passengers something to look at, whereas now, unless you have something to read, you are all the time trying to dodge your opposite neighbours' eyes, which, if they are ladies, is quite embarrassing for a nervous man. — I am, etc., TRAVELLER. Wellington, 28th February, 1911.
At 2 o'clock to-morrow Mr. W. L. Robertson .will sell by public ruction onthe premises, No. 11,' Crosby-terrace, tho furniture and contents of a six-roomed houst,.
