FESTIVAL OF EMPIRE SPORTS.
Mi\ G. S. Hill, chairman of the Wei- , i lington Centre of the New Zealand Ama- ' teur Swimming Association, has received the following letter from Mr. J. J. Mulvihill, secretary of ,the Waitemata Club/ Auckland, in reference to the proposal to send M. E. Champion to represent Australasia in .the swimming division at the Festival of Empire sports :—"I: — "I have got into communica- | tion with the chairman of the centre, and now await his instruction's. 1 believe Champion is not very anxious to j go. His friends believe that a better itinerary for him in Australia next season, and then the Olympic games in the following winter. The Auckland Star is raising a fund, for Champion to go -to the Empire festival, \but the movement has not gone far enough for us to judge what success will attend it." A meeting to go into the question of raising funds in Wellington, will be held to-night* , :
