COAL VEND.

DISSOLUTION DISCUSSED. | PENDING PROSECUTIONS. MINISTER FOB, MINES'S OPINION. By Telegraph.— l'ress Association.— Copyright. (Received February 28, 9.50 a.m.) j SYDNEY, This Day. i A meeting of the Northern colliery proprietors discussed the question of the I -dissolution of the Coal Vend. Mr. Edden, Minister for Mines, stafeea .that although ke believes the object of -the pending prosecutions by tile* Federal Government is to crush the Vend, it is hoped dissolution will not be brought about. It is questionable, he says, if the •collieries at Newcastle would be able to carry on properly without an agreement on the selling rate, and he doubted the wisdom of a reduced selling rate as a means to winning back trade. He thinks the proprietors would have lost their reason if they again reduced the selling price to 7s 6d a ton.
