ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Information T-eceived here to-day from Hokianga is to the effect that the body of a man named Bourke was found at Pakanae Gorge yesterday. Only meagre particulars are to hand, but it is surmised that deceased had been visiting his wife's gravo yesterday, that being the fourth anniversary ot her death, and, when returning home, his horse shied, and threw him off into a ravine about 100 ft deep. Deceased wa» 57 years of age, and took a deep interest in the public affairs of- Hokianga. j CHRISTCHURCH, 27th Feb. I At the inquest touching the death of John Halloran, 84 years of age, who was ! found in the River Avon on Sunday i morning, the evidence did not disclose ! how he got into the river. j His da-Tighter stated tliat he had formerly belonged to the 58th Regiment. He was not subject to fits, was never j ill, and was steady in his habits. The only explanation which she could offer was that he had lost his way. His eyesight was not good. She last saw him j alive about 9 o'clock on Friday mum- j ing, when, as was his wont, he left for Cathedral-3quai«, where he sp6nt most of his time talking to other old men. When he did not return at 7.30 p.m.^ i she began to leel anxious. A verdict that deceased was found drowned, and that there was no evidence to show how j he got into (Hie water, was recorded. A young Maori woman, named Rangi Kowhai, died suddenly al the Maori | Settlement, Mangare Bridge, afeont 7 o'clock last evening. Deceased was married, and leaves a husband and tlrre» | children at the Waikato, from where-she had ju&t recently arrived on a holiday. It is supposed deceased broke a bloodvessel, and an inqtiest will be held AUCKLAND, 27th F-ebru&Tj;. Tne adjourned enquiry into the death, of Vivian Alfred Rowell, the nine-year-old son of Serge Mit Rowell, of the Auckland city police, was continued this morning. The deceased met his death a.s the result of Eevere injuries sustained by being ran over by a trap in Sy-monds-street on 18th February. The accident occurred in a portion of the street where repairs were being made to the tram lines. The jury found that death was due to accident, no blame being attachable to anyone. PALMERSTON N., 27th Feb. A man named M'Mihou, aged 35, 1 working at Fitzherbert, left Palmerston. North at 11.15 on Saturday night forhis home. His horse was found on Sunday with one stirrup gone, and a scarred knee, near Lancaster's Ford, which was high on Saturday owing to; the rain. The police* are instituting a search. It is feared that M'Mahon has been drowned.
