FIRE AT AUCKLAND.

[OT TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.^ AUCKLAND, 25th February. The fire brigade was called out shortly after 3 o'clock on Saturday morning to an outbreak in a small store in Cookfitreet. The building, which was oc-. cupied by Miss Maxwell, and owned by .Mr. Swarm, had two cottages attached, only one of which was occupied. The flames had a strong hold when the brigade arrived, but though the store was completely gutted, the firemen managed to save the two cottages. Miss Maxwell, who occupied two rooms behind the store, was awakened by the fire and had some difficulty in escaping, a pet dog of hers being smothered. The stock was insured for £60 in thd Ocean office, but the insurance on the building is not ascertainable at present.
