CHRISTCHURCH, 20-th February Thomas Sutherland, an elderly man, who had been living at Hoon Hay forsome time with another old man named Mezo, died suddenly yesterday evening. Ho was seen about his house in his usual good health in tho afternoon, and waa found dead at 6.45 p.m. There were no marks of violence on the body, and nothing to indicate the oause of death, but a post mortem examination indicated the presence of extensive hydatids, Mr. Sutherland having been for many. years a shepherd. SUDDEN DEATH. INVERCARGILL, 24th February. Mr. Lachlan M'Queen, aged 58 years, who had been in the employ of the Railway Department, dropped dead near his homo this evening. Tho cause was heart disease. A BATHER'S DEATH. AUCKLAND, 24th February, An inquest was held this morning concerning the death of Lawrence G. Moragahan, aged 29, steward of the s.s. Daphne,, who died suddenly the day before yesterday while bathing at Matakana Heads. Dr. Alex. Kinder, who made a post-morten examination of the body, said death was due to rupture of the heart. John M'Kenzie, master of the Daphne, said several of the crow went in for a swim when the steamer was tied up at the Matakana. wharf. Deceased had only been in the water a few minutes when ho turned over, face downwards, in a helpless manner. Two of the crew got him out, and he was then apparently dead.
