SOUTH AFRICAN CRICKETERS.

MATCH AGAINST NEW, SpUTH WALES. HOME TEAM SCOEES WELL. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. SYDNEY, 24th February. The weather was fine and the wicket perfect for the return match South. Africa v. New South Wales. Trumper won the toss, and, in company with Bardsley, opened the batting to the bowling of Pegler and Pearse. I Pearse's second ball, a "yorker," bowl|.ed Trumper's middle stump,, and next j over Bardsley tipped a short one into.] the slips, and Snooke held it. Kelleway I and M'Elhcne were now together, and playing carefully, soon caused a change in the bowling. M'Elhone showed great freedom, for a colt. At 33 Kelleway stood in front of one from Pegler and was given out. Ma- j [ cartney, following, received ironical ; 1 cheers. He, however, quickly settled down in a determined manner, and, I showed, in spite of many recent failures, ! that he is not a back number. ! M'Elhone played faultlessly, and, with j Macartney, completely collared the bowling, the youngster's hard drives and late cuts being particularly attractive. Schwarz tried his whole bowling contingent without success. At 38 Snooke, fielding in the slips, missed a chance of catching Macartney, off Peglei\ M'Elhone continued to force the pace, playing beautifully, but with ,his score standing at 94 he had 'the bad luck, in pulling Sinclair to the boundary, to kick the wicket. Tbe crowd was disappointed at his missing ,the century. He had batted two hours, and had hit 12 fours. Collins joined Macartney, and quickly justified his inclusion in the team, i Macartney scored 50 ill an hour, and | then played with greater freedom, bring- j ing up his hundred in another 40 minutes. At 119 Pegler caught Macartney at j deep cover, off Faulkner. The* retiring j batsman had batted two hours and ten. j minutes, and had 16 fours. j Collins and Emery established a forceful partnership, until the former - was caught at second slip by Strieker, off j Ncurse.
