Sturm won the 120 yds and 220 yds handicaps in 11 2-5 sec and 21 2-ssec from 12yds and 21yds respectively; A. Greig (40yds) won the 440 yds handicap in 48sec, Trembath (from scratch) running a good third in 50sec; Harston (from 45yds) won the amaterr quarter-mile, also in 49sec, from Harding (scratch), the latter's time being a tick over 51sec ; L. C. M'Lachlan (15yds) won the 'half-mile, and C. R. Red-ward (70yds) won the mil© in 4min 23 3-ssec, Campbell (scratch) being second ; Chapman and Miller won the one mile and two mile bicycle handicaps respectively, and R. M'Kechnie won most of the dancing events. GET DOWN TO CAUSES. An Irish student attempted to refute a professor's lecture on cause and effect.
