STATE BRICKWORKS.

TO BE STARTED IN NEW SOUTH WALES. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. SYDNEY, 31st January. The State Cabinet has decided to start Government brickworks at once. Shale bricks will be manufactured at Homebush Bay, the daily output to be 25,000. Sand and lime * bricks will be manufactured at Botany Bay. [When the Loan Estimates were before tho New South Wales Assembly last month an item of £50.000 for the establishment of State brickworks was ruled out of "order by the Chairman of Committees, p.h the law provided that work costing more than £20,000 could not be proceeded with without a. certain procedure being followed. Mr. Griffith, Minister for Works,, stated that the sum provided was for more than one, brickworks. The chairman's ruling was dissented from, and the matter was reported to the Speaker, who upheld the ruling. The item was struck out, but Mr. Griffith declared he would start brickworks just the same. The Minister subsequently stated that under the Public V/orks- Act he had power to undertake a definite work costing less than £20,000, aaid he would 'almost immediately establish three State brickworks.]
