MAJOR-GENERAL GODLEY IN THE SOUTH. [B7 TELBGBAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, 31st January. Major-General Godley went to Lyttelton and paid a visit of inspection to the harbour defences. The general and party landed at Godley Head, and went to the summit of the hill, where they inspected the site for a fort suggested by Lord Kitchener. Afterwards the party visited Fort Jervois and inspected the guvs. This afternoon Major-General Godley held a conference in the King Edward Barracks with the chief scoutmaster. He left for Wellington toright.
