» TO BE ON A WAR FOOTING. By a decision of Major-General Godley, an important change of policy is to lake place, and the Territorials J are to be placed on a war basis. Units may now recruit up to the new establishments, which are as follow:— Officers. Men. Mounted rifle regiment ... 25 528 Four-gun battery of field artillery 4 130 Field troop of engineers ... 3 78 Field company of engineers 6 206 Infantry battalion 29 995 Cavalry field ambulance ... 6 70 Field ambulance 10 182 In due course, detailed establishments will be issued. Those issued last year will be regarded as obsolete except in regard to garrison artillery corps, which, for the present, will remain as they are. The numbers for mounted and dis- j mounted signalling companies will be announced later. Establishments for army service corps will be made known after the aarival of the Director of Supplies and Transport. Pending registration, enrolment will be " restricted to those between eighteen and twenty-one years except men suitable to be made good non-commissioned officers, who may enrol up to twenty-four. The department will only pay capitation for men on the 1910-11 rolls. All enrolled after the closing of those rolls will be equipped and clothed by the Defence Department. MOUNTED CAMP. A joint camp will be held by the Heretaunga Mounted Rifles and Dominion Scouts on the Hutt Park on Saturday. A small contingent irom the Feilding Mounted Rifles will also participate. The Commandant proposes, if possible, to inspect the companies on the afternoon of 2nd February, paior to leaving for Fort Dorset.
