Tlie enquiry into the Richmond disaster has concluded. Allan,, driver of tho Brighton train* was fined £30 for not sending his fire % man to a signal-box when detained b|{. the advanced starting signal. The fireman was fined £5, and tho gnard ol the first train was cautioned foi noij having the tail-lights burning. SignaJman M'Donald, of South Yarra, was dismissed the service but was reV commended for a less responsible posw tion. Driver Melville, of the second train^ was dismissed the service for not obey^, ing signals. His fireman was found notj guilty on a similar charge. [The accident occurred on 18th July) last. A train from Elstemwick ran into, the Brighton train, which was just mov-., ing out of the Richmond station. Tha latter had been delayed by a dense fog..' The Elstemwick train was travelling at! a considerable speed. It smashed thai rear part of the outgoing train, cutting) through the guard's van into a first-, class carriage, next to it, two compartmentis being cut up. Both trains wevo' crowded with passengers.
