PREVENTION OF CRUELTY.
The fortnightly meeting of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held las>t evening, Mr. G. S. Jamieson presiding. The inspector reported several cases of cruelty for the past fortnight. The society decided to hold its annual meeting on Tuesday next in the Chamber of Commerce. Donations were acknowledged as follow :— Mr. G. M. Kibbell, £2 2s; Huddart Parker Proprietary, £1 Is; Mrs. W. R. Williams, £1 Is; Messrs. J. M. Richardson, J. M'Brearty, and Hirst and Co., 10s each; Mrs. J. M. Butt, Messrs. J. Newton aaid Son, H. A. Shepherd, Dr. A. Izard, and Union Clothing Co., 5s each; Mrs. 4. Cameron and Mr?. G. M. Clark, and "A Friend," 2s 6d each : Mrs. Natrass, 3s 6d ; total,
