OBITUARY. MR. G. H. F. ROLLESTON.
The death took place in Wellington last evening of Mr. G. H. F. Bolleston, British Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, at the age of 39. The late Mr. E-olleston had been ill but a week, but his condition appeared to be serious from the beginning. He was the third son of the late Hon. William Bollesfcen, fourth and last President of the Province of Canterbury, and Minister for Education and Lands from 1879 to 1884. The late Mr. Hector P^lleston, as he was generally known, was born at Lin>cod, ChristchuTch, in 1371. He was educated at Christ's College, Canterbury, and. started his business career •with the Bank of New South Wales, in which he served in Wellington, and other branches in New Zealand. When the Boer War broke out he volunteered for service and was accepted, joining ihe Fourth Contingent as a trooper. .While on service he received & commission and subsequently rose to the rank of captain. He was also mentioned in despatches. When ths war ended Mr. Eolleston was appointed magistrate at Liehtenburg in 1902. While in South Africa he was married to Miss Iris Bell (second daughter of Mr. H. D. Bell, K.C. Wellington), who, with one son, survives him. In. 19.03 Mr. Rolleston va.s appointed British Trade Commissioner to New Zealand — an important post, the duties of which, as those who came into business contact with him know, he discharged with great ability. He was of an exceedingly bright and happy disposition, and these and other qualities won him much esteem.
