A witness at the resumed inquest on tho victims of the Bolton mine disaster testified that his son, who was killed, had complained of the heated condition of the air and lamps. Another witness testified that a miner had told him it was necessary to uee a jacket occasionally to extinguish gas ana get fresh air. PATHETIC SCENES AT THE FUNERALS. A DISASTER PREDICTED. LONDON. 28th December. Pathetic scenes were witnessed at the funerals of the Bolton mine victims. The funerals were so numerous that they had to be continued after dark. At the inquest, the coroner asked each witness whether the deceased had complained regarding the mine. The majority replied in the negative, but several recalled complaints made about the presence of gas in tho pit. Oke, one of the deceased, returned home eick from the effects of gas on four consecutive mornings before the explosion. Another miner had predicted a great disaster. NEW ZEALAND'S DONATION. (Received December 29, 8.5 a.m.) LONDON, 28th December. The newspapers chronicle New Zealand's donation of five hundred pounds to the Bolton disaster fund. COMMONWEALTH TO BE ASKED TO SUBSCRIBE. (Received December 29, 9.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day., Mr. Hughes. Federal Acting-Premier, will recommend the Commonwealth to give a contribution to the Bolton disaster fund. WELLINGTON SYMPATHY. "The Wellington Alon'* Brotherhood extend to you their deepest sympathy appalling disaster,' 1 was the text of a cablegram despatched to the Mayor of Bolton to-day by Rev. E. O. Blamires, minister of the Central Mission.
