SERIOUS MATTER.

GUN-RUNNING IN PERSIAN GULF FRENCH CO-OPERATION NEEDED. PARTIAL REMEDY IN ENGLAND'S HAND. By Telegraph.-Press Association.—Copyright. (Received December 29, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 28th December. The Westminster Gazette says that gun-running, in the Persian Gulf cannot be stopped without ihe co-operation of France, which has hitherto not seen her way to relinquish her trading rights in Muscat. Meanwhile, a partial remedy is in England's hand, namely, to stop the export of Home-made rifles, which are finding their way to the north-west-ern frontier, via Muscat. The Morning Post states that the rifles which are smuggled in are made chiefly in France and Belgium.
