CROQUET TOURNAMENT.
[BY TELEGRAPH — PHESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Canterbury Croquet Association's tournament, which has been in progress the last few days, is nearing its final stages. The semi-finals in the championship singles will bo played today, out the event Jooks like providing an easy victory for K. H. Izard, Wellington. In the third touikL of the championship singles K. H. Izard defeated G. M. Butterworth in a brief, but interesting game, says the Christchurch Star of yesterday. Butterworth bad two strokes and did >aot make a hoop before his opponent scored all the points, carrying a ball through the two final hoops in a characteristic manner. His play was even better than on the first day, and he nevei seemed to be in difficulties. Tho contest between Miss Gosset and Mrs. Borthwick was long drawn out, and provided an exciting finish. In the fourth round of the club pairs K. H. Izard and Mrs. Pearce defeated J. W. Lill and Miss Gos&et, repeating the tactics that had proved successful against Mr. and Mrs. Joynt on the open ing day. The following are the "esults : — Championship Singles— Third round : K. H. Izard beat G. M. Butterworth; J. O. Josling beat P. A. Laurie; G. Murray- Aynskiy beat Miss White ; Mies Gosset beat Mrs. Borthwick. Club Pairs— X. H. Izard and Mrs. Pearce beat J. W. Lill and Miss Cosset. This afternoon the semi-finals of the single championship will b& played K. H. Izard meeting Miss Cosset, and G. Murray-Aynsley meeting J. 0. Josling. The finals will probably b« played on Friday afternoon,
