For Australian States and South Africa, to connect with Maheno at Auckland (due Sydney 6th January), per Main Trunk train, 11.15 a.m. On Monday, the 2nd January, the day to be observed as ciose holiday for New Year's Day, the Postal Department will be closed in oil its branches. Mails despatched by steamers will cloibe at C.30 a.m., also mails by trains for the Wairarapa, Taranaki, Wanganui, ' Rangitikci, Manawatu, and Hawkes Bay districts; also the Auckland districts, per Main Tuink train, will clobe at 6.30 a.m. There will nofc be any clearances of the city receivers or delivery by letter-carrieis on the above-named day, but on Saturday, the 31st December, there will be full afternoon delivery by the letter-carriers, closing at the Chief Post Ofilce at 1.40 p.m. On the abovenamed Saturday there will be delivery by the letter-carriei b at the Drillshed from 8.30 to 9.30 p.m.; also delivery over the public counter at the Chief Post Office from 8.30 to 9.30 p.m. lor correspondence addressed to the Post Office only. The next best despatch for United Kingdom and Continent of Europe will be via Briudisi, closing at Wellington, per Manuka, on Friday, 30th inst., at 3 p.m. ' . The next best despatch for Canada. United States of America, and West Indies, will be via ■ Rarotonga, Tahiti, and San Francisco, closing at Wellington, per Main Trunk train, on Fiiday, 13th January, ac 10.30 a.m. Mails for Australian States and South Africa close at Auckland, per Maheno, Monday, 2nd January, at 8 a.m., and at the Bluft, per Marama, at 8 a.m. All the principal mails by train and steamer close at Te Aro and Courtenay-place Poet OfPces alf the same hours as at ttie Chief Post Office, with the exception that there is no late-fee clearance. Onless otherwise specified, registered letters and parcels-post packages must be handed iv and money orders obtained one hour before the ordinary mail closes. All books and sample packets and newspapers for places within the Dominion must be posted half an hour before the ordinary letter mail closes.
