ALLEGED ASSAULT.

A young man named Matthew Cooper, laundryman, was charged at the Magistrate's .Courj, t&day with having on 3rd December, at Wellington, assaulted his wife, Emma* Cooper, so as to cause her actual uodity- harm Mr. T. M. Wilford appeared for accused. Sub-Inspector Norwood, representing the police, asked for a remand. . The injured woman was still in the hospital, and her condition, though better, was still very grave. The alleged assault, said to. be the^ result of a domestic difference^ took place on Saturday night, and Mrs. "Cooper was taken to the hospital, where she gradually became worse. Mr. W. G.- Riddell. S.M.. took her .deposition- early this morning. Accused was remapded to 12th December.
