LETTER-CARRIERS' SPORTS.
> The fourth annual sports of the Wellington letter-carriers took place at Day's Bay on Saturday. The officials were : Starter, Mr. B. J. Stokes; judges, Messrs. A. W. Oones, E. Willis, and T. W. Leslie ; handicapper, Mr. F. W. Chapman ; secretary, Mr. R. K. Couper ; committee, Messrs. Johnston, Sullivan, Miller, Clancy, Riddick, Spear, and Norm, .mere was a large attendance of carriers and friends, and tho various events were most keenly contested for. Mr. Couper, lion, secretary, was most cordially thanked for the active part he took in the function, which was most enjoyable. The results were as follow : Letter-carriers' R-ace, 220 yds. — Ridyard, 25yds, 1; Evenson, scr, 2. Mailroom Race, k,£Ajyds. — Andrews, 9yds, 1 ; Anton, 15yds, 2. Time, 26sec. Post and Telegraph Challenge Cup, 440 yds, open I to all branches of the department; first prize, silver gup and gold medal ; second, silver cigarette case. — Lawrence (letter-carriers' branch), 20yds, 1 ; Wilson (secretary's branch), syds, 2. Time, 55 2-ssec. Variety Race, competitors all started from scratch, run 25yds, and put on boots, run 25yds to lady and put on collar and tie, run 25yds and put on coat, and return to starting-point. — Wota by Mr. Riddick and Miss B. Ross. This event caused much laughter. Toys and lollies were distributed to the children.
