DETAILS OF GOVERNMENT. REPORTS OP COMMITTEES. The City Council met last evening, there bsing present : — The Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P.), and Councillors W. H. Morrsh, C 4. W. Shirtcliffe, D. M'Laren, M.P., E. Fletcher, J. E. Fitzgerald, W. H. P. BarbeT, J. W. Thompson, A. R. Atkinson, J. Trevor, F. Cohen, J. Smith, J. P. Luke, M.P., A. H. Hindmarsh, T. Carmichael, and G. Frost. FINANCE AND PROPERTY. The Finance and Properly Committee "■ecommcnded : — That an ofter to sell certain properties in Willis-street between Mercer and Manners-streets be declined. That instructions be given Messrs. J. H. Bethune and Co. to offer a corporation property at Adelaide-road for public auction on conditions to be fixed by the Town Clerk. That the strip of land between Ohiro-roid and Maraama-crebcent be taken over as a drainage reserve, as recommended by the City Engineer subject to the council not being liable for tencing by the adjoining owners. That a refund of £4 14s 6d overpaid rates on a- small piece of land at Victoria-street, owned by Messrs. S. Luke and Company, Ltd., be granted, the- Valuation Department being in error in duplicating the assessment. That a remission of ±!3 3s be made in the half-yearly water account of Messrs. Ross and Glendining, Ltd. On account of a defective valve, the meter was registering considerably above the usual monthly consumption. The report was adopted. POWER AND TRAMWAYS. The report of Power Stations and Tramways Committee recommended :--. That the Hataitai Ratepayers' Associa-tion-be informed that its request that the name "Hataitai"' be placed on the tramway route board will be considered ■when, new boards are required, x iiat the Karori and Miramar Borough Councils be asked to co-operate with the council in instituting the same arrangements with regard to workers' cars on their systems as have lately been adopted on Che city servioe. The recommendations were adopted. BYLAWS, FIRE BRIGADE, AND STREETS. The Bylaws, Fire Brigade, and Street Lighting" Committee reepmmended : — That a certificate be attached to the requisition fixing the dosing hours of the shops occupied by the retailers of ironmongery, hardware, crockery, and tinware at 6 p.m. on Mondays. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 1 p.m. on the statutory closing day, and 9 p.m. on the remaining week da)\ as it is reported that the requisition represents a majority of the occupier* ol the above-mentioned shops in the city. That the application of the Wellington Gas Company ior permission to erect additions in wood to an existing wood-en cottag-e at Tory-street, the property being situated in the brick area, be not granted. That the application of the Te Aro House Co. ior the council's consent to an ea.«ement over a right-of-way off Dixon-str-set &o as to oive the company more room to build upon bo "ranted subject to the conditions imposed In the City Engineer's report. The report was adopted.
