MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
o Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided ..at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. Three first offenders, who imbibed to •excess, were each penalised in the sum of ss, with the usual option. John Marratt, who bore evidence of an* accident to his leg, admitted being "a rogue and vagabond, without lawful •meane of support. With a view of placing him in one of the benevolent homes, rhe was remanded till the 14th inst. In tliei case of Alfred Andrew Mit•Hiheil v. James W. Mexted, involving a ■"dasputte -about-a . fence dividing land owned by "She-parties at Porirua, further -evii'dence waq.^taken after The Post wenti yesterday. Defendant claimed* ;.that nothing but a. new fence would '"meefc'requir-ements. The magistrate (Mt. r ?Riddel], S.M.) intimated tha-t he would give decision on Wednesday. Mr. 'M'Grath appeared for informant, -Mr. D. i Jackson for defendant. ABOUT A COSTUME. Isidore Jacobus, tailor, of Wellington* j(M-r. P. W. Jackson) sued Daniel iCoronno, of Tory-sfcreet, boot manufacftuter (Mr. Cromb'ie-) for the sum of £5 ;,6s, which plaintiff alleged was owing to '■him- for a lady's costumoo-sold by plain' ■-tiff to defendant on the I4th October, 1910. Defendant, s^aid the statement ot 'claim, had refused to pay for the costume, which was delivered , to defendant's wife, in Coronno's presence. Plaintiff further claimed a sum of £4 damages for an alleged^ assault, said to have' ; been committed by defendant upon the plaintiff; maiking a total of £9 6s. Plaintiff's case was that he had agreed with defendant's wife to make the cos- ' turns for £6 6s; the garment was made, 'personally delivered, and defendant refused*to pay for it 4 though £1 had been paid on account. On one occasion 'Coronno (alleged the plaintiff) threateti-'-ed to fight Jacobus, brandished a knife, and told him to "clear out. ' For the defence, it was contended that the price agreed upon was £3 ; "that £1 had been paid on account; and 'plaintiff agreed to take £2 in settlement at the time of delivery; that the v costume did not fit, and that Jacobus '■himself owed £1 to defendant for board and lodging and money lent, a counterclaim for this £l being entered. The allegation of assault was denied. Dr. M'Aithur reserved his decision •frill Thursday.
A- conference of the controlling authorities of the various tramways throughout the Dominion will be held in Wellington in about a fortnight's time for the purpose of discussing tho terms of the proposed Dominion award. Two delegates are invited to attend from each centra.
