It is announced that the Federal Government does not intend to frame a Constitution for the Northern Territory, which it will administer direct from the seat of Government. [Speaking during the third reading debate on the Northern Territory Bill, Mr. Deakin said he hoped that one of the first steps undertaken by the Federal Government would be to complete the investigation of the Northern Territory from the Australian railway point of view. He hoped, also, that a fitting .name would be chosen instead of Northern Territory, which appeared to him to be only a geographical term. The passage of this Bill was one of the best ..possible omens for the completion of the .great work now iv course of progress which had been undertaken by the Commonwealth of Australia.]
