The Merchant Service Guild has applied to the Federal Arbitration Court for increased pay for masters and officers. \t asks that the salaries of masters of passenger vessels be fixed at £26 to iJSO a month, and of cargo vessels at £25 to £39, according to classification, with other concessions in regard to allowances, hours, and duty. On behalf ot the applicants the statement was made that when it was remembered that a master's responsibility extended over the whole 24 horns, the salary worked out at 8d to Is 4d an hour, for chief officers to Is sdj and for junior officers to 6d an hour. The claim also practically involves preference to members of the guild.
