* DEATH OF A MULTI-MILLION-AIRE. Bj Telegraph.— Press Association.— -Copyright. NEW YORK, 6th November. Mr. C. Lyman-Smith, multi-millionaire typewriter manufacturer, has died at Syracuse. ("Mr. Smith was born' at Torrkigton, Gonnecticut, on 31st March, 1850. He removed to New York in 1872, where he managed a live stock commission house; in 1875 he engaged in the lumber business in Syracuse, and from 1877 to 1890 manufactured breech-loading firearms. He began as a typewriter manufacturer in 1886, and in 1890 organised the jmithPremier Typewriter Company, of which he was president. In 1903 he sold, out to the Union Typewriter Company, of which he became a vice-president. With his brothers, he organised, the same year, the L. C. Smith and Bros.' Typei writer Company.
