A meeting convened by the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) was held at Potono last evening for the purpose ot forming a public management committee to make arrangements for the Gala Day initiated by the Horetaunga Boating Club, to be held on Now Year's Day on the Petone foreshore. It was the desire of the meeting to enlist the sympathy of those pco plo not members of the boating olub to help on arrangements. A committee con sisting of those present and others was appointed to assist. Mr. Keir, on-behalf of the club, thanked Mr. M'Ewan in conjunction with the councillors for the donation of £5 given by the council. The Gala Day held last year had been a great success, and the club had then worked .single-handed. Mr. M'Donald (secretary of tho Boating Club) remarked that the Petone foreshore would bo one of the borough's most valuable assets if it was used in tha right way. Last year a sum 6f ,£SO was disbursed in prizes at the regatta, and the biggest yacht in" the harbour was present, as well as smaller ones. .The following officers were elected to make arrangements: —Secretary, Mr. M'Donald; treasurer, Mr ''-Bcdingneli!; chairman, Mr. Brocklebnnk.
