Mr. George Lambert, Civil Lord of the Admiralty, speaking at Wareham, said the panic with regard to the Navy would collapse upon application of the needle of fact. Mr. Lambert said Britain's pre-Dread-nought battleships carried 152 12in guns, compared with 40 llin guns on the German pre-Dreadnoughts. Mr. Balfour's talk of a naval loan, said Mr. Lambert, betokened a lack of confidence in tariff reform as a means of finding money. The speaker wished the Veto Conference would end and Parliament settle the navaJ standard and entrust the carrying out cf that standard to the Admiralty. This ' would banish the fever created by panic-mon-gering politicians.
