CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH SALE OF WORK.

— — The sale of work opened by the Mayoress (Mrs. Wilford) in the Courtenay-place Congregational Church Schoolroom on AVednesday will be brought to a close tonight. The interior of the schoolroom is artistically decorated. A large assortment of plain and fancy goods yet remain to be disposed of. A concert was given on Wednesday night by Misb Coota Jinrl • friends, a.nd another one last evening was under the direction of Misses Lewis and Godwin. This evening Mrs. A. M. Lewis will have charge of the musical arrangements. Following are the stallholders: — Plain and fancy stall, Mesdames Lewis and Godwin; plain and fancy stall (No. 2), Mesdames Aspland, Coote, and Port; piain and fancy stall (No. 3), Mesdames Thawley and Russell; Social Institute Club stall, Miss Rowntree ; Courtenay Club stall (Ladies' Bible Class), members of the club ; sweet stall, Misses Lewis and Godwin; flower and plant stall, the Misses Port and Thawley ; produce stall, Mesdames Remington- and Hood ; Christmas tree, Mrs. Hoare; tea rooms, Mesdames Russell, Taylor, and Hassell. The Aspland Club shows a variety of fine carved woodware.

A conversazione arranged by the Sunday School Union was held in the Baptist Church Schoolroom, Vivianstmeiet, last, evening. Mr. H. D. Grocatt, president of the union, occupied the chaia\ In tha course of an address, Jiff. W. Gray, M.A., Principal of the Normal College, referred to the home as being -the fundamental institution in society, aaid deplored the decadence in family religion. He suggested as a. means of restoring in the home th& family piety which had characterised the homes of bygone days a crusade in impaa'timg a definite course of instruction i<» home-life, and such instruction should be given a la,rge place in the syllabus of the Bible classes. Mr. Tiller also spoke on tho subject of the gains- accruing from the work of the Sunday school .teacher. During a musical programme, songs were rendered by Misses Cooper and Clark and Jlr. Okoy'and a recitation' by Miss Dix. Refreshments were dispensed by a committee of -ladies.
