[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] FRUITGROWERS' CONFERENCE.

HASTINGS, 18th October. The Fruitgrowers' Conference resolved that the Government be urged to exempt

the Licensing Act, and favourably consider the wine industry^ inasmuch as the Government had encouraged the people to invest capital in the growing of grapes and production of wine. The conference also expressed the opinion that the greater consumption of the pure juice of the grape would reduce the amount of drunkenness in the Dominion. A resolution was pased protesting against the small duty imposed on South African wine, and urging that the duty be raised to os, the same as on other imported wines.
