THE NEW SERVICE.

NEW ZEALAND AND SAN FRANCISCO. LUNCHEON ON THE AORANGI. The Aorangi, the steamer opening up the new San Francisco-New Zealand trade, is timed to leave for California via Auckland and Papeete this evening. At a luncheon given on board to-day by the general manager of the company (Mr. C. Houlds worth), the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) gave the new venture his benediction. There were also present the Hon. D. Buddo, Hon. Dr. Findlay, and Hon. R. M'Kenzie, also members of Parliament, the chairman of the Harbour Board (Mr. R. Fletcher), and chairman of the Bank of New Zealand (Mr. Harold Beauchamp). The ship has been taking in stores all day, and a big staff of workmen has been putting on final touches to the alterations necessary for the new trade in which the -Aorangi is to be engaged. The deck, engine-room, and domestic staffs have also been exceptionally busy in getting the vessel ready for sea.
