The report of the Commonwealth Postal Commission has been tablf.d in the House of Representatives. It recommends :—: — The appointment of three dirty*»<:s as a board of management. The writing off of the present deficit by the provision of £2,000,000 as capital account. The introduction of a uniform penny postage in the Commonwealth, when the telephone and telegraphic services are self-supporting. ' The nationalisation of the cable service. The fixing of the annual "telephone rental at £3 ss, with a charge of 5s for the first 500 calls, then 4s pej: hundred for calls up to 1500, and 3s per 100 beyond that. CONTROL OF MONOPOLIES. MELBOURNE, sth October. In the House of Representatives today the Bill empowering Parliament to take over monopolies was read a first time, and the Land Tax Bill debate was continued. REPRESENTATIVES FOR IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. MELBOURNE, sth October. Before the Prime Minister's- departure to-day for South Africai the Cabinet decided that Mr. Fisher and one or more Ministers ahould attend the Imperial Conference in London next year. The Shipping Gazette says the Commonwealth's Navigation Bill mighV properly be described as a Seamen's Relief Bill, as it comes largely to the rescue of seamon afloat, and gives assistance to wharf labourers ashore, chiefly at the expense of shipowners' interests.
