LEAGUE OF NEW ZEALAND WHEELMEN.

WELLINGTON CENTRE. j The first annual meeting of the Wellington Centre of the League of New Zealand Wheelmen was held last evening, Mr. W. H. Edwards presiding. The balance-sheet showed a fair credit, being £1 14s lOd for tho short period the centre has been formed, since last May. There are now six delegates representing various clubs affiliated, viz., N.Z. Axemen's Association of Eltham. the Britannia Cycle Club (Gisborne), and tho Port Nicholson Cycle Club of Wellington. The following- officers were re-elected for the ensuing term :— Chairman, Mr. W. H. Edwards ; hon. sec. and treas., Mr. M. Ford : hon. auditor, Mr. J. E. Fitzgerald ; consuls, Messrs. Ford, Edwards, Kennedy, and Mawhinney; permits committee, Messrs. Edwards, Kennedy, Roscoe, and tho secretary. A letter was read from W. A. O'Donnell, of Levin, stating that he should like to have a chance of lowering the 100-mile world's (road) record. Tho present champion is Leon Meredith, of England, whose time was 4hrs 51min 52 4-sseo. It was stated that if O'Donnell can do tho distance in five hours the Dunlop Rubber Company, of Christchurch, will present him with a gold medal valued £5 ss. Should he cover the distance under the time put up by Meredith, ho will reooive the sum of £20 and gold medal. The proposed race will take place on 9th November, tho course being from Masterton to Featherston and back again, the distance to be covered twice to make a total of 100 miles. The chairman and the secretary of centre were appointed to make all necessary arrangements for the event. The N.Z. Axemen's Association, Eltham, applied for affiliation to the Wellington Centre, which was accepted. The same association also forwarded circulars of their cycle events, for their sports meeting which is to be held on 26th and 27th, December. The Permits Committee reported that a permit had been granted to tho Labour Day sports body, which is holding two cycle events on the 12th instant.
